The Hi-Fly Orchestra - Mambo Atomico
"you're a jazz group. you have been together for two and a half years. you play here; you play there, you start happening. you've got a dancing, grooving beat that keeps people coming back. you're "out of sight". you're called the hi-fly orchestra (THFO).
only one and a half years after the successful debut album THFO strikes back. again, the tunes have been recorded live on a 16-track tape machine, delivering an authentic and original sound. although the band consists of six men, one man is responsible for keeping the group at performance peak when sideman leave and others take their place - one man holds everything together and was responsible for forming the group - the leader and sax/flute player, florian riedl. instrumentally, the sound effects and expressions are achieved by the use of flute, saxophone, trombone, piano, congas, double-bass and drums, a particularly good combination of instruments to gain a great effect.
this album is not completey jazz-oriented, but it displays the variety of the talents of the band. it will let you hear and feel what is to be expected from them. the hi-fly orchestra are happening … you can happen with them.

"
--------------------------------------------------------
Florian Riedl (sax, flute)
Johannes Herrlich (trombone)
Christian Gall (piano)
Jerker Kluge (bass)
Hajo von Hadln (drums)
Norbert Küpper (percussion)
The grooviest work so far from the Hi-Fly Orchestra -- a set that moves even farther past the sublime territory of their debut, into a really classic blend of soul jazz and Latin rhythms -- produced to perfection with a wonderfully solid feel! Instrumentation here is all live -- a blend of sax, flute, trombone, Fender Rhodes, piano, and plenty of percussion -- all handled with a feel that takes us back to some of our favorite territory on Verve Records from the 60s, those wonderful records that blended elements from the Latin underground with some of the harder jazz leanings of the period -- a legacy these guys are happy to add to with their wonderful grooves. Miriam Aida guests on vocals on two cuts, but most titles are instrumental -- and tunes include "Afro Boo", "Carioquinha", "Polonesa", "SP Samba", "Mrs Shing A Ling", "Hi Fly Stomp", "Mambo Atomico", and a surprisingly groovy cover of "Crosstown Traffic".

Charlie Rouse - Bossa Nova Bacchanal (1962)
----------------------------------------

Dakar Sound Vol. 4(1996)
---------------
http://www.megaupload.com/es/?d=J58PSMHD-----------------------------: Their Thing (1996) Here's a great collection of late 70's-early 80's Senegalese urban music from the authoritative Dakar Sound series. This fourth volume features great tracks from Canari de Kaolak, Royal Band, Number One of Dakar and Takarnasse, all of them doing "their thing". So, don't expect westernized sounds or "commercial" arrangements. This is pure afro-caraibic music at its best. Enjoy!
Orchestra Makassy - Agwaya (1982)
http://www.megaupload.com/es/?d=D5YC4ZO4----------------------------------------- ------------------------------------ ------------------------------------------ «In 1980 a 15-man band from Dar Es Salaam got together in a Nairobi studio for some young Brits who wanted to cash in on the Afropop boom that was happening thanks to King Sunny Ade. Mzee ("Elder") Makassy was the leader and principal vocalist of the band named after him; Tshimanga Assosa of Maquis Original contributed singing and songwriting skills. (The songs are in Shona, Swahili and Lingala.) Mose Se Sengo a.k.a. "Fan Fan" is often mentioned in connection with the band as he had been chef d'orchestra before striking out on his own, and he co-wrote two of the songs on the album, but the guitarists on the record are Aimala Mbutu and Alfani Uvuruge. The excellent, bustling Kasongo Shinga played bass, and there were two drummers, a tumbador, and four horn players, including Twalib Mohamed as trumpet soloist and Akuliake Saleh on alto sax. In short, a classic East African dance-band line-up. The opening cut, "Mambo Bado," by Assosa, did become a dance-floor hit, at least in the limited world in which I was deejaying. It still gets you going from the first note. "Kufisilika Sio Kalema" is another mover and shaker in the Virunga style. The ballad "Nakolela Cherie" that closes side one is a haunting ballad about a man whose wife has abandoned him and the kids. There is a bright guitar part in the style of "Fan Fan" and muted trumpet adding to the pathos. Most of the songs contain wry social commentary. Side Two opens with "Mosese," obviously penned by Fan Fan, about a man complaining to his fiancée, followed by "Athumani," a song in which a young married woman complains about her husband running around. The bass is high in the mix for the moody "Mke Wangu," another classic track in which the singer tells of a man who lavished material goods on his wife only to have her leave him. Periodically he says "No smoking!" or "Disco!" in English, seemingly exhortations to the guitarists who are working out. "Molema" by Fan Fan and Makassy at the end of Side B, winds the set down beautifully. "Mambo Bado" should have prompted the group to international stardom but Virgin failed to promote them and they broke up. A further tragedy is that the album has not been reissued on CD [In fact, what you got here is a vinyl rip].» .......................jajjajajaaja..........pa que mamen gallos tos los corronchales

On the A-side the brilliant original of the song he covered in 1981 on the Afro-Charanga lp. Even the guitarist seems inebriated. And on the B-side a song in Balaké thanks his woman for cleaning his clothes and preparing his meals (with a revealing line: "Ma femme ne sort pas la nuit, elle est toujours pour moi" - "my wife doesn't go out at night, she is always mine").-------------------

http://www.mediafire.com/?gh2mqmnjggm--------------------------------------- Disques CVD 46: This record contains a song dedicated to the memory of Aboubacar 'Demba' Camara (the legendary singer of Bembeya Jazz who was killed in a car crash on April 5, 1973), with several quotes from Demba's songs. The B-side is not a version of the track on à New York (LS 22-79), but a track in the 'funky' style of "Super Bar Konon Moussou" and others, composed by a certain Abdoulaye Derme. --------------------------------------- Posted by WrldServ

Dakar Sound Vol. 1 - Etoile 2000
.
It was in the 70s that Dakar-businessman Mass Diokhane, dealer in cars and radio-cassete players, got the idea to produce young talents of his nieghbourhood on a label called "Touba Auto K7". So he hired a technician and they started to record the new sound of booming Dakar.
With these recordings and performances in the Jandeer night-club, Etoile de Dakar (with singer Youssou N´Dour) emerged as teh most popular group of Senegal. In the weekends they played all over the country. Diokhane as manager of the club asked singer Eric M´Backe N´Doye, guitarist Badou N´Daye and Etoile de Dakar´s star -singer El Hadji Faye to come up with a new band that could make the trees of Dakar swing. Diiokhane would supply all the neccesary equipment.
One night, during rehearsals in his garage, Diokhane came in with a tapedeck, plugged it into the mixing table, and the song "Boubou N´Gary" was taped. At 6 o´clock the musicians were send off to have breakfast and an apprenti took the tape to Golo Gaye, the most popular DJ of ORTS (national radio of Senegal). He baptised the new group the Etoile for the year 2000. Once played "Boubou N´Gary", he played it again, by public demand. And then again, all day long. At night Etoile 2000 played for a packed Yandeer. Diokhane wanted to record more, but due to some technical problems the only song recorded was "Niety Noon".
Next day Sama Xarit and Yaye Time were added to the master-tape which was flown to Paris right away. The following day 5000 copies of volume 1 of the Etoile 2000 were sold in Dakar. A major event in Senegal´s music industry.
Here you have a digitized "best of" selection from Etoile 2000´s first three cassettes. Listen to the psychedelic "guitare fuzz" of Badou N´Daye, the heavy tama of Yamar Thiam and above all the irresistable high voice of El Hadji Faye.

It was in the 70s that Dakar-businessman Mass Diokhane, dealer in cars and radio-cassete players, got the idea to produce young talents of his nieghbourhood on a label called "Touba Auto K7". So he hired a technician and they started to record the new sound of booming Dakar.
After the huge success of Etoile 2000 Diokhane´s next idea was to record the Sorano Singers, who are the vocalists of the national ensemble. They practice and perform at the Sorano theatre in Dakar, which is still the breeding-place for new traditional talent. Diokhane taped the music almost without rehearsing, using just two microphones, as the various singers improvise their text on a well known tradtional melody.
The Sorano singers are presented here with a selection of songs from their individual cassettes, all released in the beginning of the eighties. Madiodio makes her entranceon this CD with a song called Xouda Doki. She is accompagnied by a mysterious group called SK7. The orther artists are backed up by non other than Super Etoile.

Having already posted the second volume of the wonderful Touba Auto K7's featuring Number One de Dakar, it's time for the first volume. I refer you to Aduna's site for more cassettes from the same remarkable label, and, if no one else will, I will post some more volumes of other orchestras in the (not too distant, if I can find more time) future. Strangely, two tracks of this volume ("Adouna" and "Guantanamera") were repeated on the second. Apart from a difference in speed, which may be due to the physical condition of the tapes, I think the tracks are the same. And the last note of "Mambay Fary" is missing, which may suggest that my copy is a pirate version. But it's still a very enjoyable cassette. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Back in the 1930's, in Cuba, it was the epoch of the so called contestaciones (replies), songs whose lyrics replied to those of previous songs. Following that example, this new Club is meant to be the reply from the East of Cuba (Santiago) to the West (Havana) based Buena Vista Social Club. This is their second album.

The Fort Apache band is a jazz and Latin quintet rooted in the Newyorican experience, but always absorbing new developments. It has been several years since their last CD "Rhumba Para Monk" was released, and their new album picks up where they left off, this time presenting Latin arrangements of legandary drummer Art Blakey's Jazz Messengers signature songs. Blakey was known among his peers as "Buhaina". The band members are: Jerry Gonzalez trumpet/congas, Joe Ford saxophones, Larry Willis piano, Andy Gonzalez bass and Steve Berrios drums/percussion.
